World heritage
In Potsdam, the Royal Seat of the former Brandenburg-Prussian rulers, master builders and artists created a fascinating ensemble of palaces and gardens fashioned over a period of almost four centuries.
In the 19th century, landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné united Potsdam's various palaces and parks into a harmonious horticultural landscape stretching from the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam to Peacock Island in Berlin.
This uniquely landscaped park was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1990.
Nowadays, visitors can travel through time enjoying a one-of-a-kind experience of Brandenburg-Prussian history of art, culture and architecture.
