On approach via a winding and impressive drive up to the hotel, you are greeted by a stunning honey coloured Italianate mansion with a beautifully decorated Romanesque façade. The front entrance of which leads into a grand interior, shows off the high ornate ceilings, natural light and picturesque views of the gardens, typically characteristic of a building of that era.
Dating back to 1322, when records show it to have had a monastery on site, Down Hall has a fascinating architectural history with different generations adding to and embellishing the building.
The ambience is warm and comfortable. Log fires, antiques, welcoming sofas, fine furnishings, wall tapestries and modern amenities create a contemporary home from home.

Location
Just a short drive away is the famous University city of Cambridge including the spectacular Kings College in the heart of the city and Trinity college. Punt your way down the River Cam or lose yourself in the University´s Botanical Gardens. Before you reach Cambridge on the M11 you will find the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Europ´s Premier Aviation museum and home to some of the rarest and most treasured aircraft in the world.
In the local village of Stansted Mountfitchet you can experience life as it was in 1066 at Stansted Mountfitchet Castle & Norman Village.

By Road From The North
Exit Junction 8, M11. Take A1250 towards Bishop´s Stortford town centre. Turn left at traffic lights to Hatfield Heath (A1060). Down Hall is approximately 6 miles on A1060 Chelmsford road. At Hatfield Heath keep left, turn right into lane opposite Hunters Meet Restaurant and left at the end following sign post.
By Road From The South
Exit Junction 7, M11 (London to Cambridge). Take A414 towards Harlow. At fourth roundabout follow B183 towards Hatfield Heath. After approximately 5 miles road bears right - signposted 'Down Hall Conference Centre'.
By Rail
From London´s Liverpool Street Station take the Cambridge or Bishop’s Stortford train to Bishop´s Stortford (approximately 30 minute journey, two trains every hour). Taxi to Down Hall (10 minutes). Underground connections at Liverpool Street and Tottenham Hale Stations.
By Air
Stansted Airport is 9 miles from Down Hall (15 minutes by taxi).
